Design challenge statement
During our time volunteering at the Blind Community Center, our team noticed that the center does not provide for the most self accessible environment. Walking through the center for the first time, we were barely able to find any signage that used braille. We recognize that not all members of the center are able to read braille, some of them are not completely blind and are able to read large texts. Despite this, the center’s breakfast and snack menus were written in a small font that required a volunteer to read the options to community members.
Based on Edith Smith, an elderly blind community member with a service dog, our design challenge focuses on creating more inclusive environments that empower the blind members to be more independent.
